About Gunther

Born in 1949 in post-war Germany, Gunther Knaup began studying piano during his early childhood years. As a member of the prestigious “Tolzer Knabenchor”, a world famous boys choir, Gunther toured throughout Europe.

After high school, he continued his studies in music education and piano at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, and later at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich, Germany, where he graduated with a Masters Degree in Performance and Educational Piano.

In 1979, he responded to a call from Broadway composer Charles Strousse, and from CBS producer Bert Decateaux, to work as arranger and studio musician in New York City.

Over the years, Gunther has worked as entertainer / pianist in hotels and various resorts across the country and the world.

His repertoire ranges from Bach, Mozart, Liszt, Chopin, Debussy, Brahms to Cole Porter, Leonard Bernstein and Gershwin.

He currently resides in Nashville with his wife Sylvia. 

Gunther Knaup is available for performance opportunities. He is a widely experienced performer  and is available to play at various functions such as ballet classes and recitals, theatre productions (Broadway tunes), receptions, dinner parties, fundraising benefits and similar events.

His greatest passion, after all is said and done, is to pass on his love of piano music to others. He is a full-time piano instructor with the experience and patience to work with students of all ages.
